“Gateway to the Adirondacks”

If you’re familiar with Frontier Town in North Hudson, NY (about an hour outside of Plattsburgh, NY), you’ll be excited to hear it’s getting a makeover. The abandoned theme park which closed in 1999, will now be the site for the “Gateway to the Adirondacks,” a new world-class tourism destination. New York State will invest $2.8 million in the tourism hub and expects to create new jobs for the area. Gateway to the Adirondacks will include: Equestrian camping and trail riding area Adirondack Park Visitor Information Center A campground and day use area along the Schroon River Interactive exhibits in historic structures highlighting the past, present, and future of the Adirondack forest products and local food industries Event center with tourist accommodations Adirondack craft beer experience at Paradox Brewery “The Gateway to the Adirondacks will be a world-class tourism hub at a strategic location to attract new visitors to the Adirondack Park and drive economic growth in the North Country,” Governor Cuomo said. “The Master Plan, developed with key community partners, builds on our comprehensive efforts to protect the Adirondack Park while attracting tourists to experience the wide array of outstanding recreation options this region has to offer.” It looks like construction of this project isn’t due to begin until 2019, but check back for updates on the DELLA Toyota in Plattsburgh blog! Do You Clean Your Car in the Winter?

If you’ve experienced a winter in Plattsburgh, NY; Burlington, St. Albans, VT; Lake Placid, or Malone, NY, you know how difficult it is to keep your vehicle clean. Between road salt and dirty snow, it seems like your ride is always sporting a “winter coat” from December to March. Not only does winter debris look bad, it can cause serious damage to your vehicle. Road salt, dirt, snow, and moisture can cause rusting and deterioration on the exterior of your vehicle. If you want to keep your vehicle looking and feeling like new, DELLA Toyota in Plattsburgh has four tips below. Winterize with Wax - Winterizing your vehicle may be as easy as adding a coat of wax to the exterior. This will add an extra layer of protection between your ride and the road junk. You Missed a Spot - Behind the front grille, quarter panels, and wheels are generally where road salt tends to collect, making it extra susceptible to rust. Pay special attention to these areas while cleaning your vehicle! Wash It Down - It may seem counterintuitive to wash down your vehicle in the winter, but trust us, it’s worth it! Whether you choose to wash by hand, with a power washer, or at an automatic car wash, we recommend doing it as often as every other week. Be weary of the temperature, though. Avoid washing your vehicle if the temperature is below freezing. You’ll be driving around in a popsicle before you know it! Switch It Up - The interior of your vehicle needs protection from winter conditions too. We recommend investing in some custom fitted rubber mats to protect your floors from the snow, salt, and mud your boots will undoubtedly drag into the cabin. If you’re looking to cut down your ice-scraping time in the morning (and who isn’t?), we suggest draining your windshield wiper fluid and replacing it with de-icing fluid. If you have any questions, feel free to schedule an appointment or stop by our Service Department! We’ll be happy to help. Woo, Kevin. "Why Washing Your Car in Winter Is Important." IIHS Names 2017 Highlander Top Safety Pick+

In one of our earlier blogs, we announced that the Toyota brand has been awarded more Top Safety Pick ratings than any other brand! And they aren’t done, as the 2017 Toyota Highlander has been named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. To earn this award, a vehicle must complete five IIHS crashworthiness tests (roof strength, side, small overlap front, head restraints, and moderate overlap front) and achieve a “good” rating on each one. It must also achieve an acceptable headlight rating along with an advanced rating for front crash prevention. The 2017 Toyota Highlander managed to do all of this, and even more impressively, with only its standard features! Most vehicles require optional features to achieve this rating. “Toyota is firmly committed to a wide range of initiatives further enhancing the safety of Toyota vehicles and peace of mind for our customers,” said Jeff Makarewicz, Toyota’s North American Vehicle, Quality & Safety Engineering Group Vice President. “This sincere dedication to safety by our engineers resulted in another IIHS Top Safety pick for Toyota.” Check out the list of Toyota Top Safety Picks below and schedule your test drive at DELLA Toyota in Plattsburgh today! 2017 Toyota TOP SAFETY PICK+ winners: Toyota Highlander Toyota Prius (built after Aug. 2016) Toyota Corolla Toyota Camry Toyota Prius v Toyota RAV4 2017 Toyota TOP SAFETY PICK winners: Toyota Yaris iA Toyota Avalon "IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award Comes Standard on the 2017 Toyota Highlander." Seven Tips for a Car-Safe 2017

We’re almost a week into January, but we know there’s still quite a few people that are procrastinating their New Year’s Resolution. Instead of making the same old one, how about you try something new that will keep you and your family safe this 2017? We have 7 tips for a car-safe new year below. End Drinking and Driving: Each day, alcohol-impaired driving takes the lives of 36 people and injures nearly 700. While you may not be getting behind the wheel after drinking, there’s still plenty you can do to help eliminate drunk driving. Make sure your friends and family have a sober ride to and from social events, and if you see someone at risk, speak up and help them get a safe ride home. Consider Safety Rating: The great thing about New Toyota Vehicles is that not only are they stylish, tech-savvy, and fun to drive, they’re also incredibly safe. This year, make a vow to consider safety when shopping for your next car. Toyota has the most Top Safety Pick ratings from the IIHS, so DELLA Toyota in Plattsburgh is a perfect place to start! Change a Tire: Learning to change a tire is a great life skill. This is the year to learn to do it! If you need any help, our Service Department is here to assist. Be Prepared: While we hope you don’t find yourself in any car accidents this year, it doesn’t hurt to prepare. If you find yourself in a situation where your normal vehicle exit is compromised (your car is submerged in water or has rolled over), an auto escape tool like a glass-shattering hammer or seatbelt cutter could be the difference between life and death. Go out and buy one today. Buckle Up: This resolution is a no brainer! Seatbelts decrease your chance of death or injury in a collision by over 50 percent. Make sure you and every passenger in your vehicle is buckled up at all times. Fill Up Your Tank: Driving around on empty is dangerous and it can cause damage to your engine. Stay on top of your tank this year. No More Distracted Driving: Distracted driving continues to be an epidemic in our country, and ending it takes just a few adjustments. Change your habits so you can focus on driving. If you like to finish your makeup in the car on the way to work, wake up a few minutes earlier. If you’re tempted to text your group chat back, put your phone in the trunk where you can’t reach it. "7 Resolutions for a Car-Safe New Year on Edmunds.com." Edmunds. N.p., 06 Jan. 2015.
