Being America’s top-selling passenger car for 14 straight years is nothing to brag about lightly. The Toyota Camry takes this superlative very seriously and Toyota does a lot to maintain this title. Throughout its 35-year and seven-generation history, the Camry only gets better with age.

Its success comes from Toyota’s goal of providing customers with what they need in a vehicle at all times. And when you see just how long the list of successes and offered features is, you’ll know how seriously Toyota takes this commitment. Below are a few of the ways the Toyota Camry has maintained its position all these years.

  • Safety: As an IIHS Top Safety Pick+, the Camry knows how to keep passengers protected.
  • Hybrid Options: Toyota, in general, is the hybrid leader of the world, so it makes sense that the Camry Hybrid draws a lot of attention and praise.
  • Youth: Toyota is a company that appeals to drivers of all ages and the Camry is a perfect example of this. Young people love the look, feel, and options that come with the Camry, the SE trim in particular.
  • Comfort: Soft-touch materials. Roominess. Storage. The list of things that make the Camry one of the most comfortable cars on the road just keeps growing.
  • Entertainment: The Entune™ Multimedia system offers everything from the basic features to premium packages. It allows for endless customization and is extremely easy to navigate and control.
  • Warranty: Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. That level of peace of mind is hard to beat.

Different, crazy, awesome, and insane. Sound like something you’d be interested in? Well, check out Hotel Tacoma then! The video above is just the first of a handful of crazy videos that showcase the awesomeness that went on in the Arizona desert.

Toyota gave Andy Bell, Drew Bezanson, Roland Sands, Louie Vito, and friends a bunch of motorized (and non-motorized) bikes, side-by-sides, trucks, and more so they could push each one to its limits. Check out the fun in the video above and the YouTube playlist for even more behind the scenes action!

In order to make the road a safer place, Toyota is making a bold promise. Starting with the 2018 models, almost all Toyota vehicles will be equipped with the award winning Toyota Safety Sense (TSS-P) system. Their philosophy is “Why should you have to pay extra to stay safe on the road?”

This safety package includes four key features which are designed to enhance pre-existing safety features and the overall driving experience. These four features are:

Automatic Highbeams – This feature is exactly what it sounds like but it has a lot of technology behind it. Sensors will be able to detect the light of oncoming headlights and taillights in front of you and adjust the intensity of your headlights accordingly.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control – Vehicle speed will be controlled as with existing cruise control, but now the system will be able to detect the distance in between you and the car ahead of you. If it senses you are too close or the vehicle stops abruptly, your car will immediately slow down to maintain a safe distance. Once the slower vehicle is no longer an issue speed will increase again.

Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist Function – If your Toyota begins to unintentionally drift to one side of the road, this system will not only be able to visually and audibly alert you but it will also be able to provide corrective steering in small amounts to assist the driver.

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection Function – If a front collision is imminent, this system will be able to alert the driver and take automatic evasive action. Depending on the situation, brakes can be applied automatically and at a stronger force than a driver can input. And although the technology is not perfect yet, the Pedestrian Detection Function will be able to alert the driver to a person who is in the immediate path of the vehicle.

To try out these features on current Toyota models come into DELLA Toyota in Plattsburgh today for a test drive.

Child car seat safety isn’t just about buckling up. Toyota wants to make sure your family is as safe as possible this road-trip season regardless of your destination. Take a look at the list below for some good rules of thumb to follow.

  • Don’t add extra layers between your child and their car seat. Regardless if you want to protect your child from warm plastic or the seat from getting damp after your child has been playing in the water all day, padding the seat with towels or blankets is not safe. The extra material can prevent the seatbelt and seat itself from restraining your child properly.
  • Cool off the car before you get in. Either open the windows and doors or turn the air conditioner on a few minutes before you load the kids in. Not only are you getting some of that stifling hot air out of the car but you are also allowing the materials (metal buckets, leather, and plastic armrests) inside the car to cool off. We hope this goes without saying, but please never leave a child in the car alone especially on a hot summer day.
  • Don’t rent a car seat. Bring yours from home whenever possible. You know exactly how it works, whereas a rented one might not be the same model, be expired (Yes, they expire!), or have been in a crash or not stored properly which could result in weak spots.
  • Remember to use the “Inch Test” and “Pinch Test” every few uses. These tests are used to make sure both the straps and seat itself are snug in the right places.

“During the summer, families are out and about for many fun activities – which can mean more time on the road.” said Gloria DelCastillo, child passenger safety expert at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and senior specialist for Buckle Up for Life. “We hope everyone takes the time to put these car seat tips in action to help our littlest passengers stay safe this summer and beyond.”

As the latest corporate pairing between ridesharing services and manufacturer, Toyota and Uber are stirring the pot when it comes to auto travel. Rivals of both companies have already started to pair off, but as the leader in ride sharing, Uber is looking forward to expanding for finances and technology. Toyota’s investment is still under wraps, but we know that they will be collaborating with Uber drivers with regards to leasing options.

“Toyota vehicles are among the most popular cars on the Uber platform worldwide and we look forward to collaborating with Toyota in multiple ways going forward, starting with the expansion of our vehicle financing efforts,” Emil Michael, Chief Business Officer of Uber, said in a statement.

Toyota Motor North America CEO Jim Lentz recently sat down with Toyota USA Newsroom for an interview. In this interview, Lentz gave us a peek into his daily life and how he became CEO of the American branch of one of the largest automotive companies in the world.

Early in his career, Lentz experienced a setback in the form of a “personality conflict” with his “hard-school” manager. After some searching and consideration, Lentz stayed with Toyota but took a demotion so that he could remain with the company he loved and still stay true to himself.

During this period, he realized that he had “always put my future in the hands of my manager” which he knew had to change if he wanted to move upward through the company.

Through his years at the company he has realized that being a “tyrant-boss” isn’t going to get you very far. “You’re not going to motivate people that way. Even back in the day, if you were very dictatorial in your management style, you got exactly what someone asked you to do. Not less, but not more. Today if people really understand why they’re doing something, I think they give more.” said Lentz.

During the interview, he goes on to say that while traveling the world was fun at first, being a CEO can be very tiring and isn’t just about sitting behind a desk and signing policy documents. When asked what he loves about his job, Lentz responds that he loves “watching people develop and progress in the company, knowing that’s the bench of the future leaders, so that we continue with this company that develops people from within. That we don’t have to go outside necessarily. To me, that’s fun.”

When trading in a used vehicle, the value usually decreases as the mileage, condition, and age increases, unless that vehicle is a 2007 Toyota Tundra with over one million miles on it. Yes, you read that correctly, one million miles. Owner Victor Sheppard of Houma, LA, was the sole owner of the Tundra and accumulated the staggering mileage by driving all over the country for work. And while oil changes, timing belts, and other smaller components needed to be changed, the engine, transmission, and paint job are all still original.

“My truck looks great, and, except for a few little dents, it’s almost like new,” said Sheppard. “Even the seats look just as they were when I bought it. They’re not as clean, of course, but they’re not busted or worn out.”

So what did Toyota give Sheppard for his ’07 Tundra? A brand new 2016 Toyota Tundra. And what was their justification for this seemingly unbalanced trade?

“Having a million-mile truck in as pristine condition as this one with original parts is a truly rare find,” said Sweers. “Our team plans to tear down the entire truck, bumper-to-bumper, top-to-bottom to evaluate how the quality and safety we designed, engineered and built into the Tundra has held up to over one-million miles of real-world driving and help us continue providing ever-better vehicles for our customers.”

Toyota is teaming up with the youth of today in some unique and engaging ways! Recently, two of these ways were a TeenDrive365 Video Challenge and a Next Generation Mobility Challenge.

The first of the challenges, the TeenDrive365 Video Challenge, announced its winner in late April. The video, as seen above, demonstrates the importance of paying attention to the road when you are behind the wheel.  The winners, high school sophomores, Matthew Post and John Caporaletti, ask the question “Would you take your hands off the ‘wheel’ if you were driving a Beluga whale?” It may seem like a silly question but Post and Caporaletti make a convincing argument. Their PSA will air on Discovery’s networks and they will receive $15,000 for winning.

“We hope this video inspires fellow Sherwood High School friends and students to drive more safely, we hope it sends a broader message across the Washington, D.C. area, and across the nation,” said William Gregory, Principal of Sherwood High School. “Driving a car takes tremendous responsibility – for teens and adults of all ages – and Matthew and John perfectly illustrated that.”

As for the Next Generation Mobility Challenge, three finalists have been selected. This challenge asked millennials to create innovative solutions for serious mobility issues that local and worldwide communities face. The finalist are Carolyn Taclas, Keala Verigan, Sydney Quinton-Cox and James Greisen with the Mobile Community Center; Maria McKiever, Szymon Gluc and Shangyanyan Li with a mobile mailbox; and Esther Kim, John Mathai, Ayush Singhal and Niklaus Sugiri with StreetSmart, a navigation system for the blind and visually impaired. Voting is still open so visit this link to cast your vote!
