Seat belts and car safety seats are such a part of our daily lives that we often take them for granted. If you’re a parent you’ve probably been inundated at some point with information on what car seat to choose and which one is safest. But have you ever stopped to consider which vehicles might have the best setup for child safety seats? If you’re wondering which ones fall into that category, we can confidently tell you that the Toyota RAV4 is one of them.
Years of testing and research by Toyota have resulted in car seat mounts that are easy to access and use. Cars.com has recently released its Car Seat Honor Roll and the 2016 Toyota RAV4 is one of only six models to be named “Top of the Class” out of 84 tested vehicles. Several certified child passenger safety technicians evaluated the models with an infant seat, convertible seat, and booster seat and the RAV4 earned a perfect score in each category.
“We’ve put a lot of effort into making installation of child safety seats easier, and we’re glad to see that it’s working,” said Jennifer Pelky, senior safety engineer at Toyota’s North American R&D Headquarters. “I have two young boys myself, and child passenger safety is of the utmost importance to me, both as a mother and an engineering professional that has an active role in LATCH development on Toyota vehicles.”

Toyota Dream Car Art Contest Announces Winner

The Toyota Dream Car Art contest is an annual competition that’s exactly what it sounds like. Children from all over the world draw or paint their “dream car”, one that can somehow improve transportation and help humans and the planet alike. The contest is divided into three age groups where the top ten finalists are recognized with a gold, silver, bronze, or best finalist award.
Considered one of the largest art contests in the world, the Toyota Dream Car contest received more than 855,00 entries from 81 countries this year alone. Once the favorite entries are chosen, a panel of nine experts from various fields, choose the winners.
This year’s winner in the 12-15-year-old category was Gabriele Castro de Sousa of Brazil. Her work of art, titled “The Wisdom Tree Metamorphosing the Reality”, is truly incredible when you realize a 15-year-old created it. Mr. Akio Toyoda himself also hands out a special award to the child whose entry impressed him the most. This year Elinkanika Phat of Cambodia and her “Friendship Car” received the award.

The latest ad from Toyota is both funny and terrifying. We don’t want to spoil too much before you watch it but suffice it to say that Jan certainly has a good point and we would never want to be in the situation the man is imagining.

Test Driving Tips
A potential customer comes in for a test drive, we hand them the keys, and they are back in about 15 minutes. This happens all the time! Many drivers treat a test drive as a way to test the handling of a car, but a test drive shouldn’t stop there. It’s also about making sure that particular vehicle fits your daily needs and lifestyle. With some help from Kelley Blue Book and Mashable, we’ve compiled a list of things you might want to keep in mind the next time you come into DELLA Toyota of Plattsburgh for a test drive.
Test everything! – And we mean everything! From coffee mugs to strollers you want to make sure everything you use on a daily basis fits this vehicle. So bring one of your favorite coffee mugs and make sure it fits in the cup holders. If you have a child, bring their stroller and car seat to make sure they fit in the cargo spaces and the back seats. Bring a friend or family member and have them sit in the front and back to assess the comfort level and seat space. Pair your phone to the Bluetooth and test out the voice recognition. Bring your phone cords and charging cords and make sure they fit in the snug spaces outlets are located.
Drive it! – This one seems self-explanatory but really drive it like you would your current car. Move and check your mirrors and their visibility. Drive the car on city streets, neighborhood roads, and the highway as cars handle differently at different speeds. Register the interior noise level of the vehicle when you are on the highway versus city streets. If you can’t test drive the car at night, drive somewhere darker (like under a bridge or in a tunnel) to test the headlights, high beams, and fog lights. Carefully check the brakes to make sure you’d feel confident stopping abruptly if you needed too. Put the driver’s seat in your ideal position. Bring the car to a parking lot and try parking a few different ways to see how easy or hard it is to maneuver into and out of a space.
Play with the features! – You might be test driving the car on a bright, sunny day, but not every day is going to be like that so make sure to test all the features especially those that aren’t necessarily “in season.” Adjust the brightness of any interior lights or infotainment screens. Turn up the radio to assess the sound quality and to make sure your favorite radio station comes in clear. Move the sun visor around to see the coverage you’ll get. Blast the air conditioner and heat fans to see how powerful and loud they are.
Happy test driving!

Toyota Supports United Way
Recently, Toyota asked the world to band together to help raise money for the United Way. United Way is a global non-profit organization that helps to implement lasting positive changes in communities. Whether they are creating opportunities or educating people, United Way’s focus is on income, health, and education.
To help raise money for the organization, Toyota pledged to donate $20 every time someone used the #LetsJoinHands hashtag on social media. All in all, Toyota donated a whopping quarter of a million dollars to the cause. Watch the video above for some of the submissions and make sure to look at the United Way website for more information on how you can contribute.
CALTY Design Research, Inc.
Have you ever wondered about the process of how a new Toyota vehicle is made? Well, here’s your chance! Toyota recently released a behind-the-scenes look at how a new concept goes from an idea, to clay model, to pre-production at their CALTY facilities.
There are three California Toyota (CALTY) locations: Newport Beach, CA, San Francisco, CA, and Ann Arbor, Michigan, and each location works on something slightly different. The Newport Beach location is a studio and breeding ground for experimental concept cars. The San Francisco office works closely with Silicon Valley to explore emerging technologies and acts as an innovation hub for Toyota. Finally, Ann Arbor deals with production models you see on the road like the Siena and Avalon.
For a detailed look at the locations and processes of CALTY, watch the video above. You just might also get a very brief look at a top secret model.
