Dear Dad, Thank You For Teaching Me How To Change A Tire

Dear Dad,
It’s been awhile since I’ve reached out so I wanted to get you caught up on my life and I figured having this in writing was worth more than a text huh old man? Work is great- love the weekends off and being able to travel around and see new places, new adventures, new lifestyle. The commute is long, however, and sure tried learning the backroads, but I am thankful that my Honda can handle all road conditions. Lately, it’s been rainy here, so the roads can be slippery, but luckily coming from a place that snows even in May, I think I can handle rain.

One thing did happen that gave me a mini panic attack until I realize that I knew exactly how to handle the situation. Remember when you made me pull over while still teaching me how to parallel park? You said, “Pretend your tire is flat, what are you going to do?” Although my answer was “Call you, dad”, your serious face told me, I can’t always run to you. That day I thought I’d never need to use those skills again, or at least I prayed I didn’t because I was half paying attention and half ready to get back home. It was one of those nights where I stayed a little later at work and driving home was just another hassle, but I realized something was off with my car. That light that you told me meant something was wrong with my car came on, (Yes dad, I still don’t know what it’s called), I pulled over and turned on my hazards to warn other people that I was stopped. Also, thank you for telling me to always keep a spare in my trunk! With the spare tire, I also had a car jack and lug wrench. I removed the tire by loosening up the lug nuts. Jacking up the car was a tad bit tricky but I did get it and removed the tire. I put the spare tire in its’ place and got the car back on the ground. I then tightened the tire and BOOM! I was off the side of the road in a good twenty minutes- not bad for not knowing what I was doing back when you were teaching me huh? I figured you’d get a good laugh in. I didn’t want to call and get you all nervous so I stepped my game up! I also read this article once that gave me details on what I needed, call it cheating, I call it, I almost got stuck on the side of the road. Anyways, I wanted to give you another thing to be proud of! I actually listen to what you teach me, go figure! I hope you are having a great night and no
